No matter that of any character, I imagined myself most like Gideon, with a slanted humorous grin, taking in the whole onslaught of rather silly predicaments and entanglements with much amusement and enjoyment, in the corner of the room. This book falls into the same trap, but at least enough has been shown to demonstrate that these ffoundling are truly made for each other. Does plain Mr Dash put his arm round ladies in hackney coaches? That is the only thing that ruined otherwise a great story for me.

I love Gilly — I think my favourite founding is where he rescues himself from his dungeon — or perhaps when he finally blows his uncle out of the water!

doundling Sounds like the minor characters upstaged the protagonists in this one. Or, I do, at least ; There was something particularly endearing to me about the plot of a sweet young man setting out to discover whether foundliing was really a man, or only a Duke. Although very similar in plot to Sprig Muslin and, I believe, Charity Girl I haven’t read that one, so I can’t be sureThe Foundling is definitely a unique read, and I suspect, a deeper, more profound story.
